Kings Park and Botanic Garden

The flowers and plants in the park represent a large portion of Western Australia’s biodiversity with over 3,000 flowering plants, 319 species of native plants, and a 750 year old Boab Tree; most of the park is natural bushland. Because it is perched high on Mount Eliza, the park offers magnificent views of the Swan River, the city skylines, the state War Memorial, and the Darling Range off in the distance to the east. The wild flowers bloom all year, but they are especially spectacular during the winter. The free barbecue and picnic facilities allow you to include a low cost lunch or picnic in your day here. Families enjoy the time here too because of the free playgrounds available for the kids. There is also an outdoor cinema that shows movies December through March.

However, if you are just making a day trip and want to do something for free, visit the vineyards in the oldest wine region in Western Australia.
