welcome to beautiful historic BOONARA HOMESTEAD….a grand colonial home built in 1862 for David Jones of Department Store fame….located just 10 kms from the quaint village of Goomeri in the picturesque region of the South Burnett in South East Queensland. Close to the local Wineries and the towns of Kingaroy, Nanango, Wondai, Murgon, Kilkivan and Gympie. Just a 2 hour drive inland from the Sunshine Coast, 3 hours from Bundaberg or Brisbane.
The Boonara B&B Cottage sits nestled beside the old Boonara Homestead sharing the gardens and surrounds inviting you to take a stroll…maybe down to the vineyards and old cemetery or simply to sit and relax and take some time out for yourself. There are many different varieties of birds coming and going to all the numerous bird feeding stations set up around the garden. You may like to take a walk down by the creek or walk over and give Clyde (our placid old Clydesdale horse) some attention and maybe a carrot or two to munch on.
Our fully self contained colonial style cottage has a full size kitchen and a roomy living area. It is fully screened on 3 verandahs and comes with all the mod cons and creature comforts including reverse cycle air-conditioning. The Bathroom has a full size bath and separate shower.
Take some time out for yourself …even for a couple of hours… and recharge the batteries by enjoying some scrumptious home-made scones with lashings of jam & cream followed up with a fresh Pot of Tea or Coffee. Cold drinks also available. If you would like a ‘special occasion’ morning or afternoon tea with more than scones, please enquire.
We have now added a ‘Fingerfood Lunch incl. Sweets’ for those who desire a little more than the Tea & Scones. This is usually served between 11am and 2pm.
We can make it formal with a table setting using lovely English China…or as casual as you like…maybe on the verandah with extra refills from the urn…this usually suits large groups. Meals for Bus or Club Groups can be provided for by prior arrangement. Groups of up to 30 can be seated indoors if required….groups of more than 30 can be catered for on the wide verandahs. Whatever you are most comfortable with…we are happy to oblige.
The Guided Tours are usually conducted by Rob (the owner) who will manage to hold your interest with his knowledge and well known ability to tell a good yarn. He has made a point of studying the history of Boonara and its ‘century-old’ stories and has a good selection of ‘bits and pieces’ and many photos, newspaper clippings etc to share with you.
The Homestead, with its 14ft high ceilings and 7 inch beaded edge red cedar walls, will be 150 years old in 2012. It features some genuine antiques, period furniture and many collectables including a large display of fine bone English China. You will be shown throughout the Homestead and taken on a walk to the Boonara Cemetery (for those who wish to) which was the original Homestead cemetery where members of the Jones family are interred. For those interested in old machinery and equipment, there are some pieces here worth checking out, including a fully restored 1926 Chev 4 Mail Truck.
Bookings are essential to ensure availability.
Clubs and Coach Tours are welcome.
