Marina Beach, the Charm of Chennai

 

The Beach of Marina forms the shoreline of Chennai and it is one of the Major Attractions of the Metropolitan City of Chennai.

It has various Unique Features  some of which are , it is the Second Longest Beach in the World covering an area of 13 km, its sun-set is spectacular, prominent buildings of Chennai are located on the Beach Front of Marina, etc and hence it is called the ‘Charm of Chennai’.

 

The Beach has a good number of Tourist Attractions like  Anna Park, The Swimming Pool, The Beach Acquarium, Vivekananda House, The Beach Market, etc.

 

Sun-set

Sun-sets of Marina Beach are  magnificent.  The visual of sun stepping down from the high heaven of sky to dip slowly but steadily  into the Ocean and his colouring the whole area into enchanting ranges of orange, red, blue, pink, etc, is amazing. And when you are under his spell of charm you would be shocked to find him sinking into the sea slowly but completely taking  you to the sea of disappointment.

 

The Anna Park

This is its another attraction which is named after C.N.Annadurai, the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.  It also houses Statues of M.G.Ramachandran, another late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and also the statues of  many Tamil Sages, etc.

                                       

The Swimming Pool

 

Due to strong under-currents in the beach swimming remains an impossible dream for swimmers.  But as beach without swimming facility nosedives its charm and sheen  City Planners have wisely created a wonderful Swimming Pool for you in the Beach to satiate your urges for swimming in the beach.

                                                                                                                                

The Beach Acquarium

 

It has a praiseworthy collection of tropical sea fishes, fresh water fishes, etc.  It is located  opposite the Presidency College which is another landmark of Chennai.        

    

Vivekananda House

 

It was previously called Ice House as during the Colonial Era ice imported from England, U.S.A., etc, was stored over here.  In 1892 Swami Vivekananda visited this place and stayed here.  To commemorate this event it has been rechristened as Vivekananda House. 

                                                                                                                          

The Beach Market

 

The Beach is a Market of Activities in the evenings and therefore you could find hawkers peddling food items, decorative pieces, dresses, etc, during the evening hours.

                                 

Sunday afternoon Beach Market is very famous and popular.

 

Beach is also venue for important State Functions.

 

Kite flying, Pony rides, etc, are pastimes of the beach.

 

Other Attractions are Statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Lighthouse, etc.

 

Connectivity  

The beach is only 3 km from city.  It could be reached through Kamaraj Road,  Auto-rickshaws, cabs, etc, could be hired from city to reach over here.
