Located on Queensland's coast and the major jump-off point for the Whitsundays, Airlie Beach has so much more to offer than being a mere gateway to the islands. With the biggest selection of accommodation, an excellent range of places to dine, plenty of activities to enjoy - and of course, there is the famous nightlife as well.
Accommodation in Airlie Beach ranges from basic backpacker rooms to luxurious resorts, all at lower rates than you will find on any of the Whitsunday Islands. The most popular backpackers are undoubtedly Beaches and Magnums in the heart of town, and while they are perfectly located for all the action you may want to find somewhere a little further out if you want a peaceful stay.
Travellers looking for mid-range or luxury accommodation will not be disappointed with a large choice of resorts and self-contained apartments available, many of which boast stunning views out over the Coral Sea and the Whitsundays. One of the more popular options is Summit Apartments where you can find excellent accommodation at a very affordable rate.
If you decide to base yourself in Airlie Beach there is no end of boat tours that will take you out to see the Whitsundays, ranging from several hours to see the highlights like Whitehaven Beach or extended trips over several days with onboard lodging. There are heaps of other activities you can book in Airlie Beach including diving, scenic helicopter rides, fishing trips, sailing and much more.
Of course, Airlie Beach nightlife is one of the reasons many visitors choose to stay in town and they are rarely disappointed. The two biggest venues are Magnums and Beaches, both of which have beer gardens, multiple bars, music and special events. Mama Africa's and Morocco's are also popular choices and you may find yourself doing a circuit of venues on a typical night out.
So if you are planning to visit the Whitsundays, consider staying at Airlie Beach where you can enjoy the town's attractions and the beauty of the islands too.
