Ten years on One of the worst side effects of holidays is getting back to reality – catching public transport, getting to work on time and never seeing daylight. Soon those cocktails around the pool and relaxation in the Spa is nothing but a distant memory, I have the best answer to the post holidays blues – PLANNING.
As soon as I return from a holiday I start to plan for the next one, either the next break I can find or the next year. This is the best way to ensure no disappointments with availability and costs and allows you to focus on something to look forward to.
A lot of us say, “there is no way I can plan that far ahead without knowing budgets and dates but if you really put your mind to it you can put your holidays in early and plan away
As a travel specialist we find the best clients are the well planned client. We can always get cost effective options when we have more lead in time, therefore being able to save you money. One of the best parts of planning ahead is what I do, I plan for the year and then use my frequent flyer points for the flights. If you can plan in advance you will find that the points are generally available and even if you just get the seats on points you are always prepared to pay more for your accommodation. The longer the lead time with hotels also makes a big difference, especially with the locations of the rooms – if you want a room around the pool or a ocean view room – the sooner you book the better, we as the travel specialist have time to work on talking to the right people at the hotel to guarantee that you get the room type you want.
Once the next holiday is booked and confirmed you should only need to pay a deposit and final payment can vary from 30 to 60 days before departure, so you do not necessarily have to pay upfront if you are planning ahead.
You now know where you are going, when, how much and you can start to focus on looking forward to that next holiday. When someone next says – “I can’t wait for a break, I just don’t have the time to think about it”, you can tell them where you are going and when. You can relax and have something to look forward to again rather than the next office party..
